press the tip of your tongue to the roof of your mouth
behind your front top teeth
open your mouth as if you're going to say something:
they'll be rendered speechless ;)
also try extending your index finger as if you have a point to make
accompany this with an eye widening and eyebrow raise
which will also indicate the start of a new sentence
all of which give you the opportunity to do something else :)
